The Current Planning Section has primary responsibility for the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan through the development review process. The Current Planning Section reviews development proposals for consistency with Comprehensive Plan policies, and encourages good urban design. The section also processes Comprehensive Plan amendments for property-owners seeking a different land use designation. The Section coordinates the activities of the Planning Commission, which provides recommendations on planning matters to the Board of County Commissioners.
The Current Planning Section also implements several neighborhood plans developed in conjunction with neighborhood representatives and formally recognized by the Board of County Commissioners (BCC). These plans are used by the BCC when making land-use or other long-range decisions affecting the plan areas.
