The Comprehensive Planning Section is responsible for implementing, maintaining and updating the County’s Comprehensive Plan, which is based on statutory requirements, Board of County Commissioners directives and citizen feedback.
Plan implementation includes developing programs and coordinating with other agencies and the public on topics such as the provision of attainable housing, the preservation of agriculture and agricultural lands, addressing regional water management, water supply and climate change issues, assisting residents in the development and implementation of community and neighborhood plans, and pro-actively developing local area plans where appropriate.
Maintaining and updating the Plan is accomplished through periodic assessment of goals, objectives and policies in response to changing conditions, recommending any needed Plan amendments and carrying out new directions from the Board, new statutory requirements, or in response to public needs and interests.
The Comprehensive Planning Section also provides assistance to the Division, the Department, other agencies and the County Administration on Plan policy interpretation and in making sure their related actions are consistent with the Comprehensive Plan.
