Sterilization is the most humane way to reduce the number of unwanted puppies and kittens born each day. Millions of unwanted animals die unnecessarily each year. Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control offers two (2) spay/neuter programs for pets of Palm Beach County residents. Proof of residency and program qualifications are required.
The Spay Shuttle is a mobile veterinary clinic for pet owners residing in Palm Beach County. Pet surgeries are completed in the morning and animals are released to owners that same afternoon. The cost is $40 for cats, $100 for dogs to include the surgery, rabies vaccination, license tag and microchip. With proof of public assistance, the fee is waived. The Spay Shuttle currently operates Monday through Friday each week in the parking lot at Animal Care and Control. Please call 561-233-SPAY (7729) for information or 561-233-1261 to leave your name, telephone number, breed and sex of your dog or cat for an appointment. By leaving your name, you will automatically be placed on a waiting list. You do not have to call any further. When new appointments are available, you will receive a call back. Please be patient. Space is limited and appointments are not immediately available. The average wait for the Spay Shuttle may be several months. If you currently have a scheduled appointment you must arrive no later than 8 a.m. or your slot will be given to someone else. If you do not have an appointment, you may stand in line in the event that someone does not arrive for their scheduled appointment. If this occurs, only an animal fitting the same size and sex can be accepted in its place. Owners of pets who do not arrive on time for pet-pickup, must pay impoundment or late fees from the main shelter on Belvedere Road.
The Pahokee Spay/Neuter Clinic is open every Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is accepting appointments for local residents in the western communities of Pahokee, Belle Glade, South Bay and Canal Point. If you live in or around these areas you may call 561-233-1261 for a surgery appointment.
In the event of a disaster such as a hurricane, all programs will be shut down. If a veterinarian is not available for one of the programs identified above, the program may be shut down and appointments will be rescheduled.
Animal Care and Control now offers a Feral Cat Package: $25 includes the spay/neuter, rabies shot, microchip, and notching of the left ear. Please call (561) 233-1261 to schedule an appointment.
