Hood Mac Hood, - General Manager Okeeheelee Golf Course
With more than 19 years of experience in the golf industry as well as over 25 years of management experience Mac currently serves as the General Manager at Okeeheelee Golf course. As General Manager Okeeheelee Golf Course, Mac oversees day-to-day operations, including personnel management, fiduciary transactions, promotions and group sales, as well as tournaments and special events.

Prior to joining Okeeheelee Golf Course, Mac was the Director of Golf and General manager at Farmstead Golf Links and Meadowlands Golf Club in Calabash, North Carolina, both managed by Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management. Mac employment history includes the head golf professional at Blackmoor Golf Club for three years.   In 2001, while Mac was at Blackmoor the golf course was awarded “Golf Course of the Year” by the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association.  He has also been the head golf professional at Magnolia Greens Golf Plantation and Sandpiper Bay Golf and Country Club. Mac got his start in the golf business as an assistant golf professional at Colonial Charters Golf and Country Club in 1992. Prior to working in golf he had 13 successful years in the corporate business. He was the Director of Operations at Lebenthal and Company, a securities dealer, in New York City for 10 years. At Lebenthal, he supervised a staff of 23 people in processing securities transactions and was responsible for customer and firm securities in excess of $500 million.

Hood was awarded the 2004 “Merchandiser of the Year” for public golf facilities representing the Carolinas Section of the PGA of America, also receiving a nomination for the national award. In 2010 Hood was honored again by his peers receiving the Bill Straughsbaugh Award  recognizing his day-to-day efforts making in significant contributions to the game and business of golf through the mentoring of PGA professionals and the furtherance of their careers. While the award centered on the qualities of a PGA Professional that allow him or her to prepare tomorrow’s leaders in the golf industry, considerations such as the character and integrity of the member, service to the Section and involvement in community and charitable activities are also part of the selection process.

In 2004 and 2006 Hood was elected by his peers to the Board of Directors of the Carolinas Section of the PGA of America, representing Area VIII in southeastern North Carolina.  He served as the Chairman of the Carolinas PGA Hall of Fame committee and also served as a member of the Awards and Honors committee.

Hood was an active member of the North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club and has served its board of directors as the Chairman of Club Services.  In addition, he coordinated the club’s annual golf fundraiser which has raised in excess of $50,000 over the years given as scholarships to graduating Seniors of North Myrtle Beach High School.  He has also achieved the status of Paul Harriss fellow with the Rotary International Organization.

Hood also served the Little River Chamber of Commerce as a board member and held the position of Chairman.

Active member of the Grand Strand Golf Directors Association for over 10 years.


Mary-Lee Cobick Mary-Lee Cobick - Class A LPGA/CPGA
Mary-Lee, originally from Quebec, Canada, grew up playing golf at her father's 9 hole course in Amos, PQ. She attended Florida State University on a full scholarship, where she won a Division 1 College Tournament. As an amateur, Mary-Lee was a member of the Canadian National Golf Team from 1988-1993. She ranked #1 Junior in Canada in 1997 and received the Score Award for Best Female Junior Golfer in Canada. In 2000, Mary-Lee won 3 professional tournaments on the Canadian Tour and was named 2000 Player of the Year. She is the current President of the Junior Golf Foundation of America. Mary-Lee joined Golf Professional Services, Inc in 1997 and is a Golf Professional Services Manager and Head Professional at Okeeheelee Golf Course.

Deron A. Rake Deron A. Rake, CGCS - Regional GC Superintendent, Valley Crest GC Maintenance
Deron attended college at Michigan State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Turfgrass Management. He joined ValleyCrest Golf Course Maintenance in 1998 as the Superintendent at the Lakes of Taylor Golf Club in Michigan. In 2002, Deron was promoted to Regional Superintendent responsible for southeast properties, including Cherokee Run, Cross Creek, Somerset and Birkdale Golf Clubs across the southeastern states. Deron is currently the Regional Superintendent at ValleyCrest, for South Carolina’s Pawley’s Plantation and Palm Beach County’s Park Ridge and Okeeheelee Golf Courses.
