Upcoming Programs

 

PROGRAM INFORMATION:
· Programs are by reservation only unless otherwise noted. Call 561-233-1400 or visit the center to make a reservation.
· Many programs require minimum registration in order to run the program. Please register at least 2 days in advance.
· Please call if you cannot keep your reservation, which will allow someone on the waiting list to take your spot.
· If you are more than 5 minutes late to a program you have a reservation for, your spot will be given to a person on the wait list.
· Fees are due upon arrival to program (cash or check preferred).
· For every program, participants/guardians are required to sign a Program Participation Form.

    Join us for a FREE guided nature walk through the pine flatwoods forest and learn about the plants and animals that live right here in your community.

OCTOBER

  • STORY TIME
    Thursday, October 2, 10:00 a.m.
    Ages 2-5, $2/child (Reservations Required)
    Introduce your little ones to Mother Nature through stories!  Class activities may include live animals, games, nature walks and/or crafts specifically designed for toddlers and preschoolers!  Class is approximately one half hour long and the topic varies for each class.

    Join us for a FREE guided nature walk through the pine flatwoods forest and learn about the plants and animals that live right here in your community.

  • ANIMAL HOMES
    Saturday, October 11, 10:30 a.m.
    Families/All Ages, $3/person (Reservations Required)
    Where do the animals live in the forest?  Come see for yourself as we learn about animal homes and then we’ll go for a walk and see if anyone is home!

  • STORY TIME

  • RAPTOR ECOLOGY
    Saturday, October 25, 10:30 a.m.
    Families/All Ages, FREE (No Reservations Required)
    Learn about the uniqueness of this particular group of birds as predators, their reproduction, anatomy, and the differences between nocturnal and diurnal species.  
    This special program is being presented in honor of Leah Schad, an original member of the Okeeheelee Park Citizen’s Advisory Committee, a former Governing Board Member of the South Florida Water Management District, a Board Member and President of the Audubon Society of the Everglades, and a strong advocate for environmental stewardship and land conservation. Leah Schad passed away in 2008. A plaque placed at the Okeeheelee Nature Center in her honor will be unveiled in a special ceremony at 9:00 am.
