Property Appraiser’s Office Awards Scholarships

Property Appraiser Gary R. Nikolits, CFA, presents $1,000 scholarships each year to five college-bound students.

Property Appraiser Gary R. Nikolits, CFA, presented five $1,000 college scholarships, May 12. This is the 18th consecutive year the Property Appraiser’s Office has awarded scholarships to local high school seniors. There were 146 applicants this year. The scholarships are funded by employee donations to Friday Casual Dress Day. An Employee Scholarship Committee selects the recipients. With this year’s awards, the Property Appraiser’s Office has awarded $99,000 in scholarships since 1993. To be eligible for the scholarships, the students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and attend an accredited college or university.

The 2011 awardees were:

  • Barry Johnson II, graduating from Glades Day in Belle Glade, he plans to attend Florida Gulf Coast University to major in Criminology.
  • Christina Joyner, graduating from John I. Leonard in West Palm Beach, she plans to attend Palm Beach State College to major in Nursing and Communications.
  • Lindsay Lowy, graduating from Olympic Heights in Boca Raton, plans to attend Florida Atlantic University to major in Speech Therapy and Sports Management.
  • Denise Robinson, graduating from Lake Worth High School, plans to attend the University of Florida, to major in Medical Sciences and Business.
  • Hailee Sapp, of Lake Worth, is graduating from Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of Arts, and plans to attend the University of Florida to major in Nursing.
