On September 13, Commissioner Abrams participated in the grand opening of the newly renovated county facility at the South County Administrative Complex at 501 South Congress Avenue in Delray Beach that now provides driver license services.
This new facility was proposed in July by the Board of County Commissioners when the state announced plans to close the Division of Motor Vehicles location on Military Trail in Delray Beach that had over 86,000 transactions last year. The alternative locations were in West Palm Beach or Deerfield Beach. Since there was no convenient location for the many south county residents, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the Delray Beach location.
This location also proved to be the most economical because the existing structure only needed minor renovations that were completed by the county in a relatively short period of time. Fees charged for services provided at the facility will generate revenue for the county. These are crucial components in consideration of today’s economic challenges. Creating revenue, as opposed to raising taxes, is good business.
The Tax Collector’s office provides driver license services at this location, and it is now open for business. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Driver license services are only available until 4 p.m.) To obtain additional information and/or schedule an appointment, please call 800-303-7288.
