BCC BriefsAt the September 15, 2009, Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action: Army Corps – postponed renewal of an employee interchange agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the amount of $175,000 to give staff an opportunity to find alternative funding sources other than ad valorem and gasoline taxes. Broward annexation – adopted a resolution abandoning portions of the proposed extensions of University Drive and Riverside Drive, as well as providing for a utility easement and a reservation of drainage and pathway easements. This is the last step required to convey to Broward County a three-square-mile, wedge-shaped tract south of the Hillsboro Canal, which will square off Palm Beach County’s southern border. Fire Rescue – approved an interlocal agreement with the Village of Palm Springs to provide fire protection and emergency medical services. The agreement includes hiring the village’s existing firefighters and leasing its fire station. The board also appointed Chief Steve Jerauld to the Fire Rescue Level of Service Committee. Glades Utility Authority – authorized the chairman to execute any and all documents necessary to transfer the Lake Region Water Utilities Plant and related property, easements and agreements to the Glades Utility Authority, effective on or before October 1, 2009. FPL – postponed a series of utility easement approvals and purchase orders with vendors related to a reclaimed water agreement with Florida Power & Light. 2010 Census – approved the Census Partners Public Information Plan to promote public participation in the 2010 Census aimed at counting every person living in the U.S. Community Action Council – adopted a resolution establishing the Community Action Advisory Board, designating the BCC as the Community Action Council, and designating the Community Action Advisory Board as the Community Services Block Grant Advisory Committee. # # #
