Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control has received a record number of dogs being seized due to hot weather and illegal chaining.
During the last two weeks, Animal Control Officers have rescued several dogs throughout Palm Beach County that were found suffering from heat exhaustion or neglect. Some were found on chains in back yards, left to fend for themselves. Six dogs were seized Thursday, Aug. 12, in Delray Beach. One of the adult dogs only weighed 10 pounds and was near death.
It is vital that residents report any sightings of animal abuse, especially chained dogs or animals left in the heat of the day with no water or shelter. Confining animals in crates or carriers outdoors is considered inhumane and should be reported immediately.
In Palm Beach County it is illegal to chain a dog outdoors any day of the year from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it is considered animal cruelty to leave an animal outdoors without proper food, water and shelter.
To report animal cruelty or any animal tied up outdoors, call Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control at 561-233-1200.
