New Center for People with Disabilities

Commissioner Abrams joined other community leaders at the grand-opening ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Assistive Technology (AT) Lab which was made possible by the Stand Among Friends (SAF) organization.

SAF is a not-for-profit organization that was formed in 1997 to help all people with disabilities by promoting opportunities for them to live a life without limits and experience the highest degree of independence and success in their communities. 

The AT Lab, located at the SAF Disability Center in the Christine E. Lynn School of Nursing building on the Florida Atlantic University campus, was created to advance and expand SAF services to students, graduates and adults with disabilities in South Florida.

Approximately one year was spent in developing, designing, building and training/certifying staff for the new AT Lab.
