Things to Do in April at Green Cay

Green Cay Nature Center is operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and is located at 12800 Hagen Ranch Road, west of Boynton Beach. All programs are by reservation only, unless otherwise stated. Please call (561) 966-7000 or visit the nature center to make program reservations. Fees (if applicable) are due the day of the program by cash or check only. All participants are required to sign a Program Participation Form for every program. If you are more than 5 minutes late to a program you have made a reservation for, your spot will be given to a person on the waiting list.

Every Saturday at 9 and 1 a.m. and Wednesday at 3 p.m.
All ages, free (reservations not required)
Join a docent for a guided tour of our wetlands.

All ages, free
This bird watching event will take place on the back deck of the nature center. We will have binoculars and scopes set up for counting birds. A daily running tally will be posted.

SCIENCE FOR SENIORS: Butterfly Gardening
Wednesday, April 10 at 1 p.m. (reservations required)
Adults 50 and older, $5 per person
Have you always wanted to start a butterfly garden but didn’t know how? This class will go over the basics for attracting butterflies to your yard. We will also cover common butterflies found at Green Cay.


Presented by Palm Beach Poetry Festival and hosted by the Friends of Green Cay Nature Center, Inc.

All ages, free
Join us for a round-robin poetry reading of nature-inspired poems.

Saturday, April 20 at 9 a.m. (reservations required)
Ages 9 and up, $3 per person
Start your day with us and enjoy coffee and refreshments before embarking on a one-hour birding tour with one of our naturalists.

SCIENCE FOR SENIORS: Spring Migration Talk and Walk

Wednesday, April 24 at 1 p.m. (reservations required)
Adults 50 and older, $5 per person
Explore the secrets of bird migration. Learn what birds migrate, where they go, and why they travel such long distances. An emphasis will be placed on birds migrating through Green Cay. Afterwards a walk will be given on the boardwalk to spot some migrating birds.


Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m. (reservations required)
Suggested ages: 3 to 6, $2 per child
Kids will discover nature through crafts and stories about animals and other nature-related themes.
