On Friday, March 1, at 10:00 a.m., a public kick-off meeting for the Glades Region Master Plan will be held at the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center, 1977 College Drive, Belle Glade, located on the campus of Palm Beach State College.
The region-wide plan for the Glades is being developed through a $1.98 million grant awarded to the Board of County Commissioners in late 2011 by the Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Challenge Planning Grant program. The County received one of only 27 competitive grants awarded across the country. The purpose of the federal program is to foster reform and reduce barriers to achieve affordable, economically vital, and sustainable communities.
The Glades Region Master Plan project is a community-driven process designed to craft a blueprint for economic development and redevelopment in the Glades, focusing on major employment centers, including the Inland Logistics Center.
When completed, the plan is envisioned to be the basis from which future federal infrastructure dollars can be applied to implement plan components.
The kick-off meeting is the first public forum in the process that will provide residents and stakeholders in the Glades the opportunity to offer input and express their concerns on issues most important to them, which will help guide the development of the plan.
