Crews Clean Hose at Central Shop: Capt H. Park. Posted on December 27^th , 2012
Special Operations Station 34 personnel performed gross decontamination on twenty five hundred feet of hose that was suspected of being contaminated from a tire shop fire. The Department of Environmental Protection tested the contaminants and they were determined to be non-hazardous.

On Friday December 21, 2012 at 10:44 am the department received a call for a residential structure fire on the 3000 block of Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd in Loxahatchee. Initial reports to responding crews were that the caller was a parent saying that children and animals were inside the home. Engine Company 22 reported a column of smoke in the distance while responding. First arrival report was a fully involved attached garage with flames and smoke from the door. Engine 22 quickly established a water supply and had water on the fire within one minute of arrival. The occupants of the home were already outside but several family dogs remained in the structure. Firefighters were able to rescue all the animals from the home and brought the fire under control rapidly. A total of eleven dogs were rescued by the crews from inside the residence. The Red Cross was called to assist the residents with housing after being displaced by this fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Two bystanders stopped and assisted with helping the occupants and some animals get out of the residence before the firefighters arrived on scene.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Rescues Horse From Pool: Capt A. Borroto/ Photos Capt L. Forshner. Posted on December 19^th , 2012
On December 18, 2012 units from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue were dispatched to a very unique incident. Crews were told that a horse had accidentally fallen in a pool and would need rescuing to get out. Upon arrival on the 2300 block of Fawn Dr in western Palm Beach County they discovered a horse that was standing in a pool in the back yard of a residence. The homeowner stated that their 30 year old horse had gotten out of the enclosure and had accidentally fallen in the pool. A veterinarian was called to respond to the scene and the crews prepared to do rescue the horse from the pool. With their specialized harnesses and the assistance of a tow truck the crews were able to safely lift the horse out without any injury.
Palm Beach County has a large equestrian community and at certain times these animals may find themselves in situations needing assistance.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue trains on how to safely perform large animal rescue�s to be prepared for situations such as this.

Station 48 Has Special Lunch Guest: Capt A. Borroto. Posted on December 19^th , 2012
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Fire Chief Steve Jerauld recently had lunch with crew members from Station 48. This lunch was a small way for the Chief to say thank you for a job well done during the rescue of a victim that was trapped in an upstairs bedroom during a residential structure fire.
The Chief and crew enjoyed taking time out of their normal work routine to sit down, eat and talk with each other.
Battalion Two Prepares For Brush Fire Season: District Chief C. Spiegelhalter. Posted on December 18^th , 2012
Division of Forestry Area Supervisor Chris Wasil spent time this week with on duty crews in Battalion 2. Chris, along with Senior Ranger Mike, provided a brief orientation/review to station Captains, crews and Command Staff in preparation of the upcoming 2013 brush fire season. Over the past 3 days, all stations / A, B, & C shifts, were rotated through two different sessions at station 28 were Chris gave a brief classroom presentation. Topics of discussion touched on the operations of his division/crew, types of apparatus/resources stationed in the area, communications, general tactics & strategies, response time frames, permits/pile burns, unified command, and incident safety. Chris and Mike also brought along a tractor/plow were crews were given an opportunity to review general safety guidelines, emergency shutdown procedures, and possible challenges faced in the event of an emergency/accident involving tractor apparatus on the scene of a fire. The training was very beneficial. A great job done by Chris and his staff.
Crews Rescue Worker Trapped 30 feet in the Air: Battalion Chief M. Anderson. Posted on December 18^th , 2012
In the early afternoon of Monday December 17th, crews responded to Okeechobee Blvd and Military Trail where a bucket truck used to work on a sign had a hydraulic failure. Platform 29 was used to retrieve the worker from the bucket stuck high above the ground.
PBCFR Participates in Laying of Wreaths at South Florida National cemetery: DO J. Ferguson. Posted on December 17^th , 2012
On Saturday, Dec 15 members of the honor guard, pipes and drums and Engine and Rescue 33 (B) were at the South Florida National Cemetery to take part in the 2012 National Remembrance ceremony. 8000 wreaths were placed on veteran gravesites by all the volunteers on this day.
Station 33 A shift Provides Escort for Wreaths Across America Project: Capt. A. Borroto. Posted on December 14^th , 2012
On Friday December 14, 2012 Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Engine Company 33, Rescue 33 and Palm Beach County Sheriff Deputies provided an escort for three tractor trailers delivering wreaths as part of the Wreaths across America project. The trucks were escorted to the South Florida National Cemetery Lake Worth.

PALM BEACH COUNTY FIRE RESCUE WINS PETA AWARD FOR SAVING RABBITS
First Responders Save Woman Trapped on Second Floor of Burning House, Revive Rabbit Using Special Oxygen Mask
On December 2, 2012 members of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue saved a woman and four rabbits who were trapped inside a burning house on Sedgewood Drive in suburban Boynton Beach. Using a ladder to reach a second-floor window, the firefighters located all the building's occupants and brought them to safety�and when rescuers noticed that one of the rabbits was suffering from smoke inhalation, they used an oxygen mask specially designed for animals to revive him.

For their successful and heroic rescue of every occupant of the burning house, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue will receive PETA's Compassionate Fire Department Award.

"The members of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue demonstrated compassion and know-how in rescuing these four rabbits," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "The county is very fortunate to have first responders who are ready to protect and serve both human residents and their beloved animal companions."
Early Morning Fire in Haverhill Displaces Family of Five: Capt. A. Borroto. Posted on December 7^th , 2012
Units from Battalion Three responded to an early morning fire at 2:50 am on the morning of December7, 2012. The first arriving engine found flames and smoke from the front and side windows of the residence on the 700 block of Briarwood Dr. All residents of the home had already gone outside on our arrival.
Crews made an aggressive fire attack on the fire and were able to quickly bring it under control and extinguish the fire. One challenge that crews encountered was gaining access to the garage through the hurricane rated garage door.
A total of four adults and one child have been displaced by this fire and the Red Cross was called to assist them with lodging.
The cause of this fire is under investigation.

Resident and Pets Rescued From Fire in Western Boynton Beach: Capt A. Borroto. Posted on December 7^th , 2012
On Sunday 12/2/2012 at 5:41am Battalion 4 units were called to the 9000 block of Sedgewood Dr with reports of smoke coming from the front door and windows of a residence. First arriving crews reported smoke from the door and front window of a single family residence and one pt outside. The pt reported to crews that his wife was in the upstairs bedroom and several family pets were also inside the home. Fire crews immediately placed a ladder to the second floor bedroom window and entered the home to search for the person. They quickly located the wife and were able to bring her out the same window to safety. Both pts were transported to Wellington for treatment.
Crews were also able to locate 4 family pets (rabbits) and bring them out to safety. One rabbit was administered oxygen using one of our donated PET masks.
The cause of this fire is currently under investigation.
