The President Comes To Town

Story and photos by Lt. Mark V. Carr
Palm Beach County, Florida
January 17th , 2006

It's not often that common folk get to set their eyes on the aircraft and limousines used by the President of the United States of America, much less catch a glimpse of the President himself. But, the firefighters at Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue's Station 81, located at Palm Beach Int'l Airport, got to do just that on January 12th.

President, George W. Bush, flew in on the majestic Air Force 1 to present an award and to attend a fund-raising dinner in Palm Beach. Crews at Station 81 were responsible for protecting the President in the event of a mishap at the airport but reaped the benefit of seeing first-hand, the special processes and equipment that accompany the President. Marine 1, one of the President's Sikorsky VH-3D helicopters; Air Force 1, one of the President's Boeing 747 jets, a pair of shiny limousines, and an Air Force C-17 cargo jet were on hand in support of our country's leader.

Thankfully, the event went off without mishap and the visit came and went without incident. Shown are some of the photos taken during the President's brief visit to the Palm Beaches.
