Estuaries

 

An estuary is a semi-enclosed coastal water body which has a free connection to the open sea and within which seawater is measurable diluted with freshwater. Lake Worth Lagoon is a good example of an estuary in Palm Beach County. It has connections to the Atlantic Ocean via the Lake Worth and South Lake Worth Inlets.

The County Department of Environmental Resources Management (ERM) has responsibility for the protection and enhancement of estuarine resources in Palm Beach County. Estuarine projects in Palm Beach County include:
