Coastal Council

In 2004, the Beaches and Shores Council was disbanded and became the new Palm Beach Countywide Coastal Council. The purpose of the Coastal Council is to serve as an informal forum for the exchange of information and to keep its members educated about protection and enhancement of the Atlantic coast in Palm Beach County.

The objectives of the Coastal Council are to:

  • Increase member awareness and knowledge of coastal projects in order to increase trust and cooperation.
  • Discuss new and existing methods of erosion control, storm protection, beach nourishment and preservation, as well as coastal environmental protection.
  • Achieve better working relationships and communication between members.
  • Allow various groups to have an equal opportunity to be heard on coastal issues.

The Coastal Council generally meets twice per year. Membership on the council is by execution of a counterpart interlocal agreement. Currently council membership is limited to twenty-six (26) members. Non-members are welcome at Coastal Council meetings. An agenda will be available prior to the meeting, and a digital recording is available after the meeting on ERM’s website.

The contact person for the committee is Leanne Welch, Environmental Program Supervisor, who may be reached at 561-233-2400 or Lwelch@co.palm-beach.fl.us.
