At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on March 5, 2024, Mayor Sachs presented a proclamation declaring March 5, 2024 as Carey Haughwout Day. Haughwout took office as public defender for the 15th Judicial Circuit of Florida in and for Palm Beach County in 2001 and has earned numerous accolades over the years. While serving in the county’s Office of the Public Defender, she ensured the provision of high quality representation to poor individuals charged with crimes, supported the pursuit of equal justice through effective and efficient work, worked with a wide variety of other court system and policy leaders to enhance effectiveness in our justice system and consistently sought to enhance the quality of life for the most vulnerable of those in need in our community.
