On May 30, 2023, Commissioner Woodward held a meeting with county Administration,
Parks and Recreation staff and community stakeholders on the development of Milani Park in Highland Beach.
In 1987, Palm Beach County purchased two parcels on either side of State Road A1A, totaling 5.39 acres, from the Milani family for nearly $4 million for the future development of a beachfront park.
The first step in the design phase is an archeological assessment of the area previously home to Japanese settlers who established the Yamato Colony at the turn of the 20th century. Also included in phase one are 42 parking spots, a dune cross over and educational signage. Impact Fees fund the project.
