At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on March 14, 2023, Commissioner Woodward presented a proclamation declaring April 2023 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Palm Beach County. The theme of this year’s campaign in Florida is “Drawing Connections: Prevention Demands Equity.” It calls on all individuals, communities, organizations and institutions to promote change in people and the systems surrounding us to build racial equity and respect. In 2022, Palm Beach County Victim Services Certified Rape Crisis Center provided 12,002 services to 565 men, women and children who were victims of sexual assault, including 217 forensic exams. Wellington Regional Medical Center is recognized for generously providing space and support for the forensic exam site at the Butterfly House that has been located on the premises since 2011. Addressing sexual violence involves citizen engagement and action. When efforts of our local sexual assault program are amplified, this promotes our community message to survivors that services are readily available.
