​On March 6, 2023, Commissioner Woodward toured the Volen Center, a local nonprofit that supports seniors (aged 60 and over) in South County through health care and supportive services. The commissioner thanked the staff for welcoming her and providing opportunities for socialization, education and fun to our senior residents.

They offer various services, including field trips, luncheons, exercise classes, adult day care, transportation and case management.

The center was an agent of change throughout the pandemic by mobilizing its meal site programs, serving nearly 3,000 senior residents.

Additionally, the Volen Center maintains a large fleet of buses to transport seniors to medical appointments and other crucial destinations for free. Each year, they average over 85,000 trips.
