At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Dec. 6, 2022, Commissioner Marci Woodward presented a proclamation declaring December 2022 as Palm Beach County Disability Employment Awareness Month in Palm Beach County.
An estimated 2.6 million people in Florida have a disability, and 13.4% of the state’s population deals with some form of physical or mental disability. By 2030, Florida will create two million jobs, leaving 700,000 Floridians with disabilities as an untapped talent source, and the Florida Chamber of Commerce supports closing this workforce gap. The county, the School District of Palm Beach County and other local organizations are collaborating to ensure persons with disabilities have the opportunity to create productive, independent lives through community integration into social, academic and employment environments.
