Due to the heightened risks of COVID-19, Palm Beach County will not conduct its annual Point-in-Time (PIT) count. PIT is a 24-hour count of sheltered and unsheltered individuals who are experiencing homelessness.  The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires communities across the country to conduct this count towards the end of January but issued waivers to some communities this year in effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

“HUD is aware of the challenges communities are facing with the COVID-19 pandemic," said Wendy Tippet, Director for the PBC Community Services Department Human Services Division. “This waiver will allow us to ensure and maximize the safety of our vulnerable homeless population, staff, and volunteers and it will not impact our funding."

Each year, volunteers from the Homeless and Housing Alliance (HHA) and multiple community-based agencies come together to conduct the PIT count with a shared belief and commitment to serve residents experiencing homelessness and work towards the common goal of ensuring that homelessness in Palm Beach County is rare, brief and nonrecurring.
