ERM staff will be conducting a prescribed (controlled) fire covering approximately 257 acres at Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 and Thursday, May 4, 2023. The public use facilities (parking lot on Beeline Hwy, fishing pier, walking trail) and Ocean-to-Lake Hiking Trail will remain open during the burns.
Prescribed fires are conducted to sustain fire-adapted vegetation communities on the natural areas and to reduce onsite fuel loads to prevent the occurrence of catastrophic wildfires. To learn more about prescribed fire and how ERM implements this land management tool, visit
